12-Step Outreach is a fellowship of people in 12-Step recovery who practice Centering Prayer, Welcoming Prayer and other contemplative methods to enhance their 11th Step practice. Although Centering Prayer is rooted in the Christian Contemplative tradition, we honor all spiritual paths. We are affiliated with Contemplative Outreach Ltd, but remain autonomous with respect to religion, denomination, sect, politics, or other outside organizations. We are self-supporting through our own contributions. Our primary purpose is to help ourselves, other individuals, and groups, regardless of their definition of a Higher Power, establish and deepen contemplative practices to complement the 11th Step.

11th Step Centering Prayer Groups:

These weekly meetings intended to support individuals working their 11th Step through the use of centering prayer. People from all 12 step groups are welcome. An established centering prayer practice is NOT a pre-requisite, and practitioners of other meditation forms are welcome. Anonymity will be honored as we sit, study, and share together. Each meeting incorporates a 20-minute period of silent prayer, followed by a group study of a reading, DVD, or CD of relevant work such as Thomas Keating's Divine Therapy & Addiction or Richard Rohr's Breathing Under Water. We share our experience, strength and hope in relation to the study topic and our own unfolding lives.

11th Step Meetings:

These weekly meetings are different from 11th Step Centering Prayer Groups.  These are regular 12-Step Meetings (AA, Alanon, OA, NA, etc.) following the AA traditions. They include a 20-minute period of meditation but no mention of any specific type of meditation and usually use only 12-Step literature. The remainder of the meeting usually includes a speaker lead, then open discussion.
